Ionic Detox Foot Bath. |
Ionic footbaths are a popular tool for detoxing the body. The media has been quick to label them pseudoscience based on some poorly done research. Properly done research has shown that ionic footbaths do increase detoxification of heavy metals. There is still some uncertainty as to the mechanism of action, but the anecdotal evidence of the effectiveness of ionic footbaths is overwhelming. The stored toxins of the body can pass through the various meridians of the body. Some meridians are positively charged out-flowing, called Yang Meridians; others are negatively charged, receptive, called Yin Meridians.
A direct current goes through one end of an electronic array, through the water (which has salt added for conductivity), and back through the other end of the array. Depending on if the machine is set to positive or negative, the current will break water into positively charged hydrogen ions (H+) and oxygen gas (O2), or negatively charged hydroxyl ions (OH-) and hydrogen gas (H2). You can usually see or smell the O2 or H2 gas near the array. The main theory of how ionic footbaths work is that the ions in the water pull out oppositely charged toxins through the pores in the feet and into the tub of water.
The kidneys store liquid toxins while the liver stores solid toxins. Both of these meridians are Yin Meridians which flow from the feet toward the organ they are related to and these heavier toxic energies will course through, drawn to the positive ions in the water dumping their toxins. Other meridians with toxins will tend to do the same. Positive meridians will tend to dump their negative ions in the water. The energy passing through the meridians is not itself positive or negative. It is the flow through the meridians which draws the charged particles. It acts as a conduit or carrier along the pathways that the meridians are oriented in. This also explains the various colors and textures that can appear in the water. The water is not always rust colored. It can turn black or have white yeast colorations. It can turn dark green as well. It depends on what is predominately detoxing.
