| Preventing illness is not the same as treating it. How to build a program around your own risk factors instead of the average. |
| Estimated reading time: 9 minute(s) (1962 words) |
There is a big difference between preventive treatments and
treating something once you have it and are forced to deal with it. Good prevention
should be balanced and inclusive of what you specifically need. There are
recommendations for the general balance that is the mean for everyone.
Each person is unique; and a specific program, worked out well for what your body
needs using the basic guideline of the average, will use that mean as a good place to
start.
Preventive treatment takes into consideration your risk factors for contracting a disease or condition such as cancer. You need to see
how prevalent in your genetics, for example, is a certain kind of cancer. Diet and proper exercise are main considerations.
You can't maintain any kind of health with eating properly or getting the
minimal amount of exercise. Exposure to toxic elements in your
environment put you at risk, and, beyond basic health, that's the most important point to address in
prevention. You may need to start with a detoxification program. Not
everyone who is exposed to the same toxic material, reacts towards it in the same
way. Some people have stronger immune systems and other people may have natural resistance to certain
material.
Listed here are specific nutrients and how they
affect your body. This information may be used by persons wishing to reduce
their risk for developing cancers, or to assist in healing if cancer has already
been diagnosed. Nothing here is meant to suggest a diagnosis of any condition or
recommendation for treatment. If you are ill, see your doctor.
Supplements of minerals, vitamins, herbs and
certain foods assist the body to properly absorb the nutrients and elements that
protect tissue and cells from further cancer growth. Some of
these can prevent cells and tissues from deterioration thus, in some cases,
thwarting the cancer cycle.
Supplements
If you
- Are genetically prone to cancer
- Want to prevent cancer
- Have cancer
you will want to consider taking the following food splements:
- Coenzyme Q10 – 90 to 100 mg
daily to assist your body's cell oxygenation.
This coenzyme exists
in every cell of our bodies; yet, as we age, the levels of coenzyme Q10 decrease.
This decrease has been directly related to numerous kinds of diseases and illnesses
- Dimethylglycine
This is also known as Vitamin B-15 (Pangamic
Acid), DMG and can be purchased as
Aangamik DMG from
Foodscience Labs, following the
directions as given on the label. This substance has been shown to enhance oxygen utilization
in the body. It also stimulates immunity responses, assists in extending the
body cells' life span, and protects the body against pollutants
- Garlique
This is a form of garlic for people who find raw garlic unpalatable. Two tabs
three times a day support the immune system and assist in maintaining healthy cholesterol levels
- Melatonin
Two capsules three
times a day. The last dosage is best taken two hours before bedtime. This powerful
antioxidant also assists in attaining a more restful sleep. Antioxidants help
rid the body of oxidants, the same chemicals that cause the browning
of a sliced apple. When oxidants (also known as free radicals) roam
the body, they steal electrons from other molecules in an attempt to become
stable. In this process, the free radicals damage cells, shortening their life
span and speeding up the aging process. Our bodies produce free radicals by
burning fuel. Our bodies also produce antioxidants. Due to the overabundance of free radicals are being introduced into our body
by environmental pollutants, chemicals, toxins and cigarette smoke, we have
an imbalance of more free radicals than our bodies were designed to handle. It
thus becomes necessary
for us to increase our intake of antioxidants
- Natural Beta-carotene 25,000 IU daily or carotenoid complex as directed.
Carotenoids are a complex of foods that contain vitamin A (alpha-carotene),
Beta-carotene, gamma-carotene, lutein(helpful in protecting the eyes and in
clearing away free radicals; it's abundant in spinach and collard greens) and lycopene (shown to reduce the likelihood of cancer reactions, present in
tomatoes)
- Omega-3 Forte and Omega-3 Plex, both obtainable from
American Biologics
Taken as directed to help repair cells and assist in the production of
healthy new cells
- Proteolytic Enzymes taken as directed or
Wobenzym N from Marlyn Nutraceuticals
Take 2 to 6 tablets of this powerful free radical eliminator two to three
times a day between meals.
- Selenium
Take up to 200 mcg daily. You may want to spread your consumption of selenium
throughout the day, as some people have
incurred side effects (such as muscle cramps) from taking too much at one time.
Some people have no problem handling selenium; so I am merely advising you
to keep alert as to its effects on you. It is best taken with Vitamin E
complex (includes all the E tocopherols) – 1,000 IU daily. This is
another very powerful antioxidant and cancer fighter. Use the emulsion form of
this for easier assimilation in high doses
- Shark cartilage or BeneFin – for
cancer treatment take 1 gm per 2 lbs. of body weight daily. Divide this into 3
doses per day. If you can not tolerate taking this orally, it can be
administered in a retention enema. For cancer prevention, take 2,000 to 4,500 mg
3 times a day. Shark cartilage has been shown to inhibit and even reverse the
growth of some types of tumors. It also stimulates the immune system; Superoxide
dismutase (SOD) – take as directed on the label. This helps destroy free
radicals. This can be taken through injections under a doctors care; Vitamin A
– 50,000 to 100,000 IU daily for 10 days, then take 50,000 IU daily for 30
days then reduce it to 25,000 IU daily. If you are pregnant, do not exceed
10,000 IU daily. Vitamin A is required for people with cancer in higher than
normal doses because it is a powerful antioxidant. Use emulsion forms for an
easier assimilation into the body when you are using larger doses. The capsule
forms of Vitamin A can put a stress on your liver; Vitamin B Complex – 100 mg.
Daily. This is necessary for normal cell division and function; Brewer's yeast
– 1 tsp daily for 1 week, then gradually increase your dosage to 1 Tablespoon
3 times a day. This is another good source of Vitamin B's; Vitamin C Complex
3,000 to 10,000 mg daily - A powerful antioxidant that also improves circulation
and promotes the protection of interferon in the body. The complex version is
best because it includes balance portions of Vitamin P (bioflavonoids with
hesperidin and Rutin). These act to assist in the absorption of the vitamin C
into your system and help strengthen the walls of your capillaries and build
resistance to infection.
The foods that are important in this process of either
preventing cancer or treating it are contained in eating a series of very
helpful mushrooms. Maitake Mushrooms (Grifola frondosa) are taken as
directed. They contain a substance that prevents carcinogenesis and inhibits the
growth of cancer cells and thus preventing tumors from growing as well. These
mushrooms are also helpful in assisting the body to adapt to the stress of
cancer treatments such as chemotherapy. Take with Vitamin C for better
absorption. Start out taking 100 mg per day for prevention; Shitake Mushrooms (Lentinus
edodes) are great immune boosters. They increase T-cell function and inhibit
tumors from growing. Taken as derected, you can start taking this as 100 mg
daily for basic prevention; Reishi Mushrooms (Ganoderma lucidum)
increases the bodies resistance to stress. It activates macrophages and T cells.
It helps clear the body of free radicals or invasive particles that include
caner cells. For a booster to your immune system and your health start with at
least 100 mg of Reishi Mushrooms per day.

directed on the label. Chromium picolinate helps to build and maintain muscle
mass. This is useful if your muscles become atrophied. Chromium helps prevent
sugar cravings and sudden drops in energy. You can take any where from 200 to
600 mcg. Daily. Grape seed extract is a powerful antioxidant. It has
proanthocyanidins, bioflavonoids which greatly enhance the activity of vitamin
